The Start Button Windows-10

The Start Button Windows-10

When the predecessor to Windows 10 (Windows 8) was introduced there was a significant outcry due to the disappearance of the traditional Windows Start button. This was made worse by the removal of the Start menu too. However, the Start button was reinstated in Windows 8.1 and the Start menu has now also returned, in an enhanced format. This means that Windows 10 can be used in a similar way to traditional versions of Windows.

Using the Start button

The Start button provides access to the apps on your Windows 10 PC and also to the enhanced Start menu:

➧ Click on the Start button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen

➧ The Start menu is displayed

➧ The left-hand side of the Start menu contains links to frequently used apps, a list of quick links to items such as the Power button, and an alphabetic list of all of the apps on the computer

Hot tip:

The items on the Start menu can be customized from the Personalization > Start section of the Settings app.

➧ The right-hand side of the Start menu is where apps can be pinned so that they are always available. This is displayed as a collection of large, colored tiles

Hot tip:

Click on the Power button on the Start menu to access options for Sleep, Shut down or Restart.

➧ Other items can also be accessed from the Start button by right-clicking on it
